Miami Vice

Episode 5

Calderone’s Demise

HOME

Original air date:  10/26/1984

The episode starts in the police interrogation room. Tubbs is serious about finding out where Calderone is. This is a set at Greenwich Studios.

Crockett and Tubbs learn that once the hit man had completed his hit list he was to go to the Conch Bay Lodge on St. Andrews Island. He was to check in under the name of Miller and just wait till he was contacted. They also learn that Calderone and his people have not yet met the hit man so they do not know what he looks like.

The sign on the door reads Observation Room.  This was filmed on a set at Greenwich Studios.

Crockett and Tubbs head to “St. Andrews”.

This is one awesome scene filmed off the coast of Miami.

At 07:14 the opening montage starts, ending the longest teaser of season 1. The montage was the same for episodes 2,3,+4 but it changes slightly here.

Crockett and Tubbs arrive in St. Andrews. This was filmed in Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

The tower seen behind Crockett in the screen capture above is outlined with a yellow square in the satellite picture below.

The island behind C+T at right is the island in the top right of the satellite picture above.

Tubbs meets Calderone’s daughter on the beach. This location eluded me for too long but with a little work I sussed out that this was filmed on the north shore toward the west end of the Island at a place called Carambola Beach.

Next we go to where Crockett and Tubbs are staying. This was filmed just east of where they arrived on the island. A small house over looking Gallows Bay.

Tubbs meets up with Angelina again. Location unknown.

Then Crockett goes as Miller to pick up the money and set up Calderone. Looks like somewhere in the middle of town.

Calderone is just off shore when he gets the news.

Calderone decides to take Crockett and Tubbs out.  This leads to a chase through the town.

The chase ends with C+T driving north down Hospital Street and running off into the ocean.

Tubbs goes to see Angelina to find out where Calderone is.  Unknown island location.

Then we see C+T on their boat. Thanks to “Tommy Vercetti” at miamiviceonline.com we now know that this was filmed at Crandon Park Marina (Tony Rome’s marina) on Virginia Key. Thanks Tommy.

Then they are back at their rental house.

Next, they go to the beach party. This was not filmed on St Croix but back in South Florida on Key Biscayne at Crandon Park.

Crockett is taken away from the party at gunpoint. Then Tubbs lets Angelina have it, telling her all about her father. In the next scene we are at Calderone’s house on “St. Andrews”. This was also filmed on Key Biscayne at what is known as the Ortega residence. This was the site of Richard Nixon’s winter white house. That residence was torn down and replaced with this house. Some things such as the floating helipad remain from the Nixon days. This house is used in numerous other Miami Vice episodes. It also gained fame as Frank Lopez’s house in the remake of the movie, Scarface.

Calderone meets justice at the edge of his pool. They wrap things up on the Nixon floating helipad.

They did not waste any film on the trip back. To show C+T returning to Miami they just reversed the image on the film of the trip away from Miami and hoped no one would look closely. Now the boat is traveling from left to right on the screen where they had gone right to left on the way out. Only problem is everything else is reversed also including Crockett now driving the boat from the left side.
