Heart of Darkness

After the turn they show a close up of "Crockett" in the Daytona. Except it is not Don Johnson, it is his stunt double. How they made such a glaring goof is amazing.

Then they show the Daytona crossing over Brickell Ave. while traveling fast on S.E. 15th Road past the church again.

Then we see them pull up to the restaurant. The exterior shot is of La Carreta Restaurant in little Havana. S.W. 8th Street (Calle Ocho) at S.W. 36th Court.

The interior is a mystery. Looks like high ceilings so a hotel would be logical. The Omni comes to mind but I can't find anything currently in the Omni that matches up. Looks like it might be on the water. Anyone recognize it?

From here they return to the O.C.B.. Next they meet with Artie's wife. I am not 100% positive but I believe this was filmed at 1000 Venetian Way as was Penny's murder scene and Artie's undercover pad.

Crockett and Tubbs return to Crockett's boat. This filming location is unchanged from the Pilot but the boat has changed. Located at Miami's Bayside Marina.

Next they go to Artie's undercover pad. Located at 1000 Venetian Way where they found Penny dead in the pool.

From Artie's they return to the O.C.B. Then they travel thru the toll gate at the west end of the Venetian Causeway. They arrive at Artie's to find he has cleared out. As they pass thru the toll booth you see 1000 Venetian Way in the background. The toll booth was replaced a few years ago.

After finding Artie's place cleared out they return to Crockett's boat. I love this scene with Elvis, classic Vice. Then they receive a call from Artie. For a long time I thought this was filmed outside the Storer Communications building at 12000 Biscayne Blvd. Thanks to Airtommy at Miamiviceonline.com we now know that this was not the case. He figured out that it was in fact filmed on Brickell Avenue at 8th Street. Artie is on the SW corner of the intersection closer to 8th Street. We see the Suntrust building behind him with the Four Ambassadors (of Tony Rome fame) seen reflected in the windows. Artie is in front of what was the Barnett Bank Centre at 800 Brickell Ave.

Next we go to the O.C.B. to prepare for the sting.

Then they head out for the meet.

The van was parked here in the parking lot of what is currently a Boston Market, 12500 Biscayne Blvd. This was at the time a lounge called the Tin Lizzie.

This was the Pumpernik's we see in the background. It was located at 12599 Biscayne Blvd.

They get into Artie's limo and head north on Biscayne past Pumpernik's.

Red line is limo approach.

Light blue rectangle is the van’s location.

Yellow rectangle is where Crockett and Tubbs were parked.

Green is Trudy’s location.

Purple rectangle is on the Pumpernik's building.

Then we see them on Indian Creek Drive passing 65th Street.

They continue north to Bonita Drive where all the cars turn left (westbound) onto Bonita Dr. toward the causeway.

Next we see them traveling southbound past Tropical Chevrolet on Biscayne Blvd. at N.E. 88th Street.

Then we see the limo escape by jumping the W. 63rd Street drawbridge. If you look closely here you will see multiple goofs. The gate that normally lowers to cross the roadway to alert and stop traffic was not attached to the lowering mechanism. The gate has been removed and is propped up on 2x4s so it will easily be knocked out of the way for the stunt. The real gates are sticking straight up into the air in the raised position. The limo was also replaced by a smaller 4 door sedan for the jump. If you look at the left side of the screen you will see a cameraman with lighting near the peak of the bridge.

In the picture below the yellow arrow points to the cameraman. The light blue arrows point to the raised, real gate on the east end of the bridge and the gate's mechanism arm missing the gate with the gate set up at a lower level for the car to hit.

Finally the limo arrives at the Port Of Miami/Dodge Island.

The episode ends at the Blue Dolphin Lounge with the exact, perfect music selected to match the scene. The location of the exterior establishing shot is unknown.

The interior was reportedly filmed inside the Tin Lizzie Lounge located on Biscayne Blvd. in North Miami at NE 125th Street. This makes additional sense  because it was the Tin Lizzie’s parking lot that was used for the scene where Crockett and Tubbs get picked up in the limo for their ride to the port. The source of this information seems credible as it comes from a Miami Police Officer who was assigned the detail of working the filming location on the night this scene was shot. Special thanks to Miamijimf at Miamiviceonline.com for tracking this information down and relaying it to me. If anyone has a picture of the interior or exterior of the Tin Lizzie, please let me know at cglide@floridamovielocations.org
